The Timberline Lodge

Ever since elementary school when I first saw the movie The Shining, The Timberline Lodge has fascinated me. Staff at the lodge wrote me back when I was in high school (1980s) after I wrote the hotel to request photos of the lodge’s exterior. So needless to say by the time I made it a priority to visit the lodge in 2012, the trip was pretty much three days of constant photography. Below are some of those photos in reverse chronological order. I found the lodge chairs inside the lobby so attractive that I measured them, sketched them, and later reconstructed a two of them from scratch in Los Angeles out of steel and wood – see my “Other Media” tab for photos of these reconstructed chairs I sit in to this day.
